Melillo + Bauer Associates is pleased to announce the opening of the new Morris Square Park in Liberty Harbor, Jersey City. A celebration of the historic Morris Canal is the theme for this innovative urban park.
At this destination, a sculptural educational display offers park visitors information documenting the long and storied history of the Morris Canal.
As an interpretation of the 107 mile canal route, a bold graphic pavement delineation meanders from Grand Avenue along Grove Street and into the Park. With flush curbs and decorative pavement, Grove Street is designed to host events, vendors, and markets throughout the year for the benefit of the Jersey City community.
The new Morris Square Park, adjacent to the recently opened 235 Grand residential building, features park space for children and adults alike. Children of all ages can slide, swing, tumble, climb, run and enjoy their friends in a safe environment.
Adjacent to the play space is a plaza offering parents and caregivers an opportunity to relax while their children frolic. Shade trees, decorative lighting, colorful seating elements and other site furnishings offer a pleasant respite amidst the busy cityscape.
We are proud to have been an integral part of the design of this wonderful public park and open space.
We would like to thank Ironstate Development and Kushner Real Estate Group, as well as Mayor Fulop and Councilman James Soloman, for making this park a reality.
