When the Bell Labs Holmdel Complex opened in 1962, it was touted as one of the great architectural masterpieces of the 20th century. Designed by Eero Saarinen, the building is now being reimagined by Somerset Development as Bell Works, Holmdel's newest work-live town center. In May of 2015, Melillo + Bauer Associates was brought on as a designer and consultant for multiple spaces throughout the building. The feature project, an 18,000 sq. ft. rooftop amenity space, includes an event lawn, fire pits, lounge spaces, and, in the spirit of the building itself, a cafe made entirely of repurposed shipping containers.
